UN envoy meets with Aung San Suu Kyi

Gambari did indeed meet with Aung San Suu Kyi.

They met for one hour at a state guest house. She was permited outside her home. The UN office in Rangoon reports

"Aung San Suu Kyi conveyed to Gambari that she is in good health but requires more regular medical visits"

Aung San Suu Kyi conveyed that she hopeful UN involvement will lead to productive measures. Gambari, reportedly, was "frank and extensive" in his discussions with Than Shwe. He was pleased with the junta's seeming cooperation. Though, Gambari said he was not getting anything "concrete" from Than Shwe or junta leaders.

Aung San Suu Kyi is now serving her third term of house arrest. She was arrested on 30 May, 2003 after the regime's militia attacked her convoy and killed up to 100 of her supporters.
